Live Your Second Life Through Your Phone
Multimedia company Comverse have developed software that will enable Second Life inhabitants to keep in touch with their virtual world even when away from their computer. The software lets mobile users log in to Second Life remotely and communicate with others ‘in world’.
Second Life was launched in 2003 and has fast become ‘virtual’ home to over 3.5 million users, in turn prompting a flood of marketers keen to tap into the predominantly 18-44 year old demographic. Virtual billboards, information booths, even virtual islands with media and conference facilities have sprung up in the Second Life virtual world. Hitherto, Second Lifers have had to rely on an internet connection and relatively high-spec PC to access the site. The new technology opens up the virtual world for mobile phone users. A spokesperson for Comverse is quoted as saying: "We're unleashing the virtual world from the PC and allowing it to be available on any terminal--that's the benefit for the end user." www.pconlinegaming.co.uk |
